Be ready for next week when the class discussed our roles in the body. Here is the assignment:
WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR?

INSTRUCTIONS: (This is homework for April 2, 2006). The point of this lesson resides in the passage found in 1 Corinthians 12:12-26. You need to identify who wrote this letter, to whom it was written, when it was written, why it was written, and why this would apply to you.... Or does it apply to you? Why did the writer use this passage?

Your in depth study of this passage might include the following areas:

1. The human body is a picture of Christ and of His church (v.12-13).
2. Point 1: some less gifted feel they are unimportant to the body (v.14-20).
3. Point 2: some more gifted feel they are more important to the body (v.21-23).
4. Point 3: God has put both the presentable and unpresentable into one body (v.24-26).

(Answer the following questions)
• What does this passage represent; e.g., literal issues, figurative issues, a metaphor, etc.
• What would make someone feel they are unimportant to the body of Christ (vs 14-20)?
• What would make someone feel they are more important to the body than others (vs 21-23)?
• Identify what a presentable person would look like (vs 24-26).
• Identify what an unpresentable person might look like (vs 24-26).
• How would you go about finding out what God wants you to do?
• If you haven't found your place in the body and you are not seeking God to find out, does this mean you are exempt from your responsibility to function in the body?
• What are you willing to do to remain comfortable in the body?
Feel free to prepare an essay, answer questions, share your function in the body, or what ever. This is your class to receive what you want in relationship with your level of participation.

I am asking everyone in the class to be prepared to share why or why you are not functioning within the body as Christ has placed you.

Here's Leland Hall's notes for the March 26, 2006 session...
ARE YOU SURE OF SALVATION?

Acts 2:38

"Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
• What does the word "repent" mean?
• How is real repentance seen in behavior?
John 3:16

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
• Why is there a difference in these two passages? One says it takes repenting, the other faith. Which are we to accept?
• How can one have faith that leads to salvation without repentance?
1 John 5:9-13

9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
• What is the difference in the testimony of men and the testimony of God (v9)?
• How do you know if you have the testimony within yourself? How does the non-believer make a liar of God (v 10)?
• What is the testimony as portrayed in verse 11 and what is the significance of this testimony to your life (v 11)?
• Explain what it means to have the Son and what is meant by "life" (v 12)?
• Explain the significance of verse 13.

HOW DOES THIS LESSON IMPACT YOUR LIFE?

DO YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS IN YOUR HEART ABOUT YOUR SALVATION? IF SO, WILL YOU TAKE THE STEP, RIGHT NOW, TO OBTAIN AN ASSURANCE OF ETERNAL LIFE?
